Sawyer, Ella B (b. 15 AUG 1850, d. 15 AUG 1863)
Note: BIOGRAPHY: This charming child was the only daughter in her father'sfamily and was destined apparently to be a gaurdian angel to the brothers, who were younger than herself. The hopes and affections of her parents naturally entwined around her. She was advancing towards maturity in person and in mind, and early exhibited a religious sentiment, which gave promise of moral excellence.

BIOGRAPHY: She was spending a summer vacation at the residence of her maternal grandfather in Sandwich. One of her healthful recreations was a daily ablution in some adjacent stream or pond. On the morning of her thirteenth birthday, having received from her mother a new bathing dress, as a memorial of the event, she went with a few of her associates to a new bathing place, which was believed to be safe. But the slope of the bank was deceptive, and after a few yards it abruptly fell off. She adventured beyond her depth, and was not able to recover her foothold. Help came soon, but too late. "Oh Ella, my child," exclaimed the grandfather, "would to God I had died for thee."
