George A West, Retired Local Machinist, Dies

George Arthur West, 75, a retired machinist and a resident of this community nearly his entire life, died at his home, 294 East Main St., at 7 a.m. Tuesday. Mr. West had been in failing health for the past 14 years.

Born Oct. 25, 1874, at Pleasantville, Mr. West came to Bradford with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob West, prominent pioneer photographers, when a small boy.

Mr. West lived in Bradford most of his life and was a machinist by trade. He worked for a number of machine shops in Bradford, including the Bovaird and Seyfang Manufacturing Co., the Blaisdell Machine Co., the Bovaird and Company, and the Clark Bros., Inc., the latter firm in Olean. Mr. West retired in 1943 because of ill health.

He was married to Jospehine Davis on June 15, 1899. Last June Mr. and Mrs. West celebrated their 50th anniversary of their wedding.

Mr. West was a member of the Union Lodge No. 334, Free and Accepted Masons of Bradford.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs West; four sons, Shirley M West, Gail A West and Charles B West, all of Bradford, and Chester D West of South Bradford; one daughter, Mrs. Josephine covert, of Bradford; 13 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs Jessie M Berlin, of Los Angeles, Calif., and one brother, Harold West of Butler.

Friends will be received at the Koch-Chatley Memorial Chapel between the hours of 2 and 5 p.m. and 7 and 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at the Koch-Chatley Chapel Thursday afternoon at 3 o’clock. The rev. F. L. Harburn, pastor of the Asbury Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Koch-Chatly Memorial Chapel.
