HUGH LOVE
Died at his home on Pine Street in the Third ward on Saturday Oct 13, 1894, aged 82 years, the cause of death being complication of stomach troubles.
Mr. Love was born in Westmoreland County, this state, but with his parents went to Sharon, Mercer County, when he was a very small boy. He was a carpenter and contractor by trade and resided in Sharon nearly all the time until 1869, when he came to New Castle. He was the contractor who built the woollen mills at Sharon. In 1839 he was married at Vienna, Ohio, to Miss Jane A. Stewart, who still survives him. As stated above Mr. Love came to New Castle in 1869, and with Alford McCarnes built the woollen mill here. This firm operated the works until 1872, when the firm name became H. Love & Sons. The operated the mill until 1877, since which time Mr. Love has followed his old trade of contracting carpenter.
The deceased was an earnest Christian worker in the Second U.P. Church and during all his long life he was a conscientious, good man. His life was an example to the young. He was kind and affectionate, loved little children, and in turn was loved by them. He did what he believed to be right, regardless of consequences. He was the best of husbands, and kindest of fathers and an excellent citizen. He was the father of six children, all living in the city, their names being, Capt. A.S. Love, Jesse B., Miss Sadie M., Milton, William and Albert. Funeral Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the family residence, interment at Oak Park cemetery.
