AN ESTIMABLE WOMAN
Mrs. Jane A. Love Passes Away From the Scenes of Life
Mrs. Jane A Love, widow of the late Hugh Love, passed from the scenes of earth from her home on Pine street at 2 o'clock Friday morning aged 80 years and four months. Death resulted from nervous prostration, induced by advanced age. The announcement of her death though not unexpected it having been realized that the end was fast approaching found, as is always the case, her family and large circle of acquaintances unprepared for the sorrowful tidings. Her lovable qualities of mind and heart had endeared her to many, by some her death will be severely felt and deeply mourned.
Mrs. Love was born of Scotch-Irish parentage in 1818. Her people were seceders, which denomination afterwards became known as the Associate Reformed church. When the union of the Associate and Associate Reformed churches took place forming the denomination known as the United Presbyterian, she became identified with that organization and has ever since remained a faithful adherent to and firm champion of its doctrines.
Mrs. Love was a native of Center county, Pa. She was a daughter of Alexander Stewart, a prominent farmer and contractor in that region, and was the eldest of a family of eight children. When she was about seven years of age her parents removed to Trumbull county Ohio. Almost to the time of her death she retained a vivid recollection of the journey across the country and over the mountains in a big covered wagon. It took them a week to make the trip.
On the 27th of February, 1839, she was married to Hugh Love, a carpenter and contractor. A year after their marriage they took up their residence in Mercer county.
In 1871 they removed with their children, their union having been blessed with five sons and one daughter, all of whom are living and residing in this vicinity, to New Castle. For some time Mr. Love was interested in a woolen mill located in South Jefferson street, afterwards following various occupations. In February 1889 Mr. and Mrs. Love celebrated their golden wedding, their lives having been singularly happy ones, free from any great sorrow. Death first entered into the family circle four years ago when the husband and father was called to the life beyond.
Mrs. Love has been a remarkably energetic woman, even until recently when weakness and advanced age would seem to require rest from all employment, her busy, nimble fingers were frequently occupied fashioning dainty and useful articles for household use. One coming to New Castle she united with the First U.P. church in which she was a tireless worker. When the Second church was organized she became connected with that congregation and has been a regular and faithful attendant until recently when physical infirmities have necessitated her absence from the house of worship she loved so well. She was the mother of Prothonotary A.S. Love, Jesse B., B.M., W.A., H.A., and Miss Sarah. She also commanded the love and admiration of 12 grandchildren. In a pleasant home on Pine Street, with her son H.A. Love and daughter, Sarah, her declining years have been passed, surrounded by encompassing tenderness and devotion. Funeral Monday at 2 p.m. from her late home. Interment at Oak Park.
