Stewart, Samuel Porter (b. 24 APR 1824, d. 8 MAR 1902)
Note: Samuel Porter Stewart was born in Hubbard, Trumbull Co. Ohio and they removed from there to Lawrence Co. Pa, where Amanda Jane was born, soon there after his father bought a farm in Hickory Twp. Mercer Co.Pa and moved on to it, where the rest of his family was born. He united with the Presbyterian Church of Clarksville Pa. At an early age and in the course of time was elected elder in the Free Presbyterian Church of that place and after the Old School and the Free Presbyterian Church united he continued in the Eldership until his death, March 8, 1902. He was County Commissioner for one term, and they had quite a work to do in furnishing means to complete and furnish a large Almshouse? That was being built. He got through with his commissionership in a creditable manner. He was a very hard working man. Sometime after he was married, he bought a large farm West of Clarksville, Pa. And in the course of time built a new house and barn and with good management got all his property paid for. In his wife, who died Jan 12, 1901 he had a good strong support and who was a most estimable and Christian woman. She was very strong in her beliefs and was not afraid to express them and live them. In business she was economical and a good manager. As a friend, she was very kind and loved by all who knew her.
