Senator Kilgore’s Mother Dies
Washington, June 11 (U.P.) – Mrs Laura J. Kilgore of West Virginia, died tonight in Beckley Woods, W. Va., the Senator’s office announced. The Senator was with her at her death, having returned home by plane from Casablanca last week where he was with the Senate Investigating Committee. Her age was 75.
Mrs Kilgore was the widow of Q. H. Kilgore, who died this year. Surviving besides her son is a daughter, Mrs. Helen K. Turner.

US senator, born in Brown, West Virgina, USA. A liberal West Virginia judge, he went on to serve in the US Senate (Democrat, West Virginia, 1941–56). He chaired the so-called Kilgore committee that oversaw US mobilization efforts for World War 2 and helped to set up the War Mobilization Board (1943). On the influential Appropriations Committee, he helped to establish the National Science Foundation (1950).
