Note: Mary Ann and Joseph were first cousins.
Note: William and Agilis were first cousins.
Note: It was said for a long time that Charles Kilgore of Kings Mountain was married to Winney Clayton. But this is not true, Charles married Martha ____?, Robert who is his brother was married to Winney. Charles moved to Green Co. Tenn and raised his family. He left a will with his children all listed in a very detailed manner. So are we to believe this Charles would leave out 4 children from Scott Co. Va. ? No, One daughter in his will, Mary, who lived in Scott County was included, so I doubt he was a man would not mention 4 other children , also deed's in early Orange Co. NC. have been discovered and signed by Robert and Winney Kilgore. Also when his son Rev Robert Kilgore died his son listed him in the county death register and recorded Robert and Milly as his parents. Would he not of known his own grandparents name? Milly could of been a clerical spelling error, that were common then or maybe Milly was her(Winney) nickname? None the less he list Robert as Rev Roberts father. Another deed has surfaced recently with Winney (X) Kilgore as a witness>

Sept 1794
Sig: Thomas Alley and Mary Alley
Wit: Robert Kilgore, Charles Kilgore, Winney (X) Kilgore
Recorded 05 Nov 1811
The date of this deed is 12 May 1811, and there were alot of Namesakes of Winney Clayton, but they were all too young to witness this deed at the time. So I believe she was living with one of her Children, most likely Hiram, after the death of her husband Robert. Some early historians wrote Winney had died at an early age and her (thought) husband at the time Charles had moved on to Green co. Tn. and remarried. Now we know this is untrue.
What happen to Robert and Winney? Robert was hunting on the Pound Gap with 2 other men James Green and a McKinney man, they were attacked by indians, McKinney made his way back to camp. Later A search party went out and found the body of Robert Kilgore and James Green they were Killed in the attack by the Indians. The search party buried their bodies on the spot in a hollow Chestnut Tree near the mouth of Indian Creek near Pound Va. It's said this is how the creek got its name. James Green's death left a Widow Jane Porter and a young child James Green Jr. without a father. Jane Porter later married Rev Robert Kilgore and they raised 8 more children along with James Green Jr. Winney must not of remarried as the deed above support's the idea she lived with her children in old age.
