Note: Eliza Cooper
The many friends of Mrs. Eliza Cooper were greatly surprised on Tuesday of last week to hear of her sudden death. Although she has been feeble for several years, yet her death was quite unexpected. Eliza Means was born April 9, 1814, in Mercer county, Pennsylvania, and died February 26, 1894, in Tama county, Iowa, aged 79 years, 10 months and 17 days. She was married to John Cooper March 27, 1844, who preceded her to the better world February 17, 1891. She has been a member of the M.E. church about fifty years. She is the mother of seven children, of whom five are living; she also has thirty-six grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren. Her funeral services were conducted by Rev. W.A. Gibbens. His discourse was from the words, "Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my end be like his." The home was crowded by sympathizing friends and relatives. Her remains were laid in the Townsend cemetery by the side of her husband.
