Missing Soldier, Native of City, Is Declared Dead

A former Bradford resident and a native of this city has been officially declared dead by the Department of the Army after having been missing since Nov. 28, 1950.

He was Sgt. Jack C. Zuver, 30 year old son of Mrs. Florence Zuver, 624 ½ S. Union St., Olean and the late Arthur Zuver. He was promoted to his present rank after beng declared missing.

Born in this city jan. 8, 1923, Sgt. Zuver re-enlisted after service in World Warr II, during which he was awarded the European-African_Middle Eastern Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

He was a member of Co. K, 35th Infantry Regiment, when he was reported missing. His company, in defensive position in North Korea, was overrun by Communist troops. Then a corporal, he was wounded in the chest when the company was forced to withdraw.

Sgt. Zuver is survived by his mother; a twin sister Mrs. Eva Clark, also of Olean, and two brothers, James Zuver, Cuba and Kenneth Zuver, Olean.

Bradford Native Officially Listed As Dead by Army

A Bradford native has been declared presumed dead by the Defense Department, according to a notice received by his mother, Mrs. Florence M. Zuver. 624 ½ S Union St., Olean.

Sgt Jack C Zuver, 31, was reported missing in action on Nov. 28, 1950, while serving in Korea. At the time, he was a corporal, being promoted to his present rank while missing.

He was born in Bradford, Jan. 8, 1823, and moved to Coudersport with his family while still a child. His father, now dead, operated a drug store in the Potter County community, until the family moved to Olean.

Sgt Zuver attended Coudersport schools, Olean High School and was employed by Clark Bros. Co. Inc., prior to entering service. During World War II he served three and one-half years in England and Belgium and re-enlisted in May, 1950.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by a twin sister, Mrs. Eva Clark, Olean and two brothers, Kenneth, Olean and James, Cuba.

Mrs Eva Bozard, Former Resident, Succumbs in Olean

Olean- Mrs. Eva L Bozard, a former Bradford resident, died at the Olean Nursing Home on Friday morning. She had been seriously ill since last Sunday.

Mrs Bozard had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Ernest Hokanson, Dugan Road for the past 12 years. She was born on June 27, 1864, at Machias. Prior to moving to Olean she lived in Salamanca for 20 years and Bradford for 10 years.

Mrs. Bozard was a member of the First Methodist Church of Bradford.

Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Hokanson and Mrs Florence Zuver, Olean, Mrs. Walter Storms, Sugar Grove, formerly of Bradford, Mrs Charles Miller, Buffalo, and Mrs. Ralph Langley, Hornell; two sons, Floyd Bozard, Salamanca, and Clifford Bozard, Buffalo; 21 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 pm from the home of a son, Floyd Bozard, 159 Academy St., Salamanca. Further services will be conducted at the First Baptist Church, Salamanca, with the Rev. Mallcolm Painter officiating. Burial will be in the Wildwood Cemetery, Salamanca.
