Obituary
The death of Silas Bryson of Adams, Neb., marks the passing of one of the oldest pioneers in the state. Mr Bryson came to Nebraska in 1862 and has been a resident of the Sterling and Adams vicinities since that time, or for fifty-three years. Death occurred Wednesday, November 10, at the home of Mr Bryson’s daughter, Mrs George Horrum of Adams.
Mr Bryson was born June 20, 1835 in Athens county, Ohio, being over 80 years of age at the time of his death. He was reared and educated in Ohio. In 1855 he was married to Miss Clarinda Young, who died in 1909. To them fifteen children were born of which twelve are living. Mr Bryson is also survived by fifty-nine grand children and twenty-one great grand children.
Coming to Nebraska in 1862 Mr Bryson settled near the present site of Sterling where he lived four years, during which he saw the establishment of a postoffice called “Bryson.” In 1866 they moved to Adams vicinity where he has since resided. He leaves seven daughters, Mrs Horrum, Mrs Lucretia Barnhouse of Wheeler, Kas., Mrs Jennie Patch of Canby, Ore., Mrs Ruth Bassett of Burr, Neb., and Mrs. Mollie Barmmore, Mrs Viola Shepherd and Mrs. Gertie Evans of Adams. The five surviving sons are William Bryson, John Bryson and David F Bryson of Adams, George Bryson of Comstock, Neb., and S. Y. Bryson of Grand Island.
Funeral services were held Thursday at the Adams Methodist church, in charge of the pastor, Rev. Pierson. The funeral sermon was given by Rev Embree of University Place. Internment was in the Adams cemetery.

Beatrice – Mrs. Silas Bryson, a pioneer resident of Adams, died Saturday afternoon. She had been married fifty-four years and is survived by a large family of children, most of whom reside in the Adams vicinity.

Adams – On Friday afternoon occurred the death of Mrs. Silas Bryson, who has lived here for nearly fifty years and leaves a host of mourning relatives and friends. The Methodist church was filled on Sunday afternoon with a great company of people to attend the funeral. Her surviving husband is now the only living charter member of the first class of Methodist Episcopal church of this place.
