SALAMANCA - George T. DeBoy, 82 of 90 Fern Ave., died Sunday morning (March 5, 2006) at the Olean General Hospital.

Born Sept. 11, 1923 in Bradford, Pa., he was the son of the late George and Dorothy DeBoy. He was married on Sept. 14, 1946 in Holy Cross Church to the former Helen Pizon, who predeceased him on June 28, 1995.

Mr. DeBoy was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corp serving with the Headquarters Squadron 5th Fighter Command in the South Pacific during World War II. He was involved in the battles in Luzon, New Guinea and the Southern Philippines and was awarded the American Service Medal, Asiatic pacific Service medal, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory medal and the Philippines Liberation Ribbon.

He was employed in the section gang for the former B&O Railroad in Salamanca, retiring in 1985.

He was a member of ST. Patrick's Church and a former member of the Ellicottville American Legion Post 659 and was an avid horseshoe player.

Surviving are one son, George (Penny Green) DeBoy of Fern Avenue and one daughter, Sandy (Charlie Raecher) DeBoy of Front Avenue; two grandchildren, Amy Buchanan of North Carolina and Cindy Raecher of Salamanca and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. DeBoy was predeceased by a daughter, Cynthia Buchanan, four sisters and three brothers.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today, at the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River St., where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday with Deacon Michael Anderson of Holy Cross/St. Patrick's officiating.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Full military honors will be performed by members of the American Legion Hughes Skiba Post 535 and Veterans of Foreign War, John Ahrens Post 5296.
