Special Dispatch of the New York Times
Richmond, Va., April 27 – The floor of the Court of Appeals room in the second story of the State Capitol fell today, at 11 o’clock, Precipitating several hundred persons in the Hall of the House of Delegates below. The crash was sudden, and the scene which followed beggars description. Sixty or more persons were killed – among them:

One hundred were wounded, including Hon T S Bocock, formerly Speaker of the House of Representative, Judge Meredith and Mr Neeson, both counsel in the Mayoralty case; Bell Kelly, Matthew Strother, and Chase, of the House; Herndon, of Kendrick, and several other Senators, all slightly. John Howard, lawyer; Col G W Brent, Alexandria; Hom L H Chandler, Ex-United States District Attorney, severly. Gov Wells, dangerously. Col George Bolling, Petersburg.

Burgess, Daniel Maynard (b. 21 DEC 1828, d. 28 FEB 1911)
Note: Daniel Maynard Burgess (1828–1911) was a surgeon and explorer born in Otsego County, New York. He travelled extensively worldwide, particularly in Central and South America. Burgess also served as a surgeon in the Civil War under General McClellan. He was present at the destruction of the first battleship Maine in Havana, Cuba. Burgess died within minutes of giving final instruction on the publication of his memoir, in which he reminisces about numerous acquaintances of note (including Presidents Grant, Arthur and Cleveland; Generals Winfield Scott, Philip Sheridan, and Robert E. Lee; Daniel Webster, Mark Hanna, Roscoe Conkling, William Tweed, Charles Dana, F. Hopkinson Smith, and King Edward VII of the United Kingdom).

Bequest to Hamilton College
Clinton – Dr Daniel M Burgess died yesterday in New York, aged 82 years. He was the husband of Annie M Burgess who died in 1906, by whose will one third of her residuary estate was to be given to Hamilton College subject to the life interest of Dr Burgess on the same. The bequest will amount to be between $40,000 and $50,000.

Village Notes.
Herkimer, March 4 – Dr M G Burgess is in New York City, called there by the death of his father, whose funeral was held on Friday morning, interment being made in Greenwood cemetery in that city.

Dr Daniel Burgess, a former resident of this place, died at New York City Tuesday, at an advanced age. Deceased was born in the town of Richfield, Otsego county. He was for thirty years United States inspector of the poor of Havana, Cuba. He is survived by three children, Dean Burgess, of Niagara Falls, Dr Maynard Burgess of Herkimer, and Mrs B F Adams of Little Falls; also one brother, Isaac Burgess of Winfield.
