The Era (Bradford, Pennsylvania) > 1886 > March > 8

The week was wound up in fine shape at the fair Saturday night, the attendance being very large with plenty of liberal patrons, while so far as room permitted dancing was indulged in. A number of articles in the booths were raffled off, the names of the winners being published in our Sunday contemporaries, who took their share of the pleasant task of booming the enterprise. Late contributions are as follows; E. B Chappell, the artist, a crayon portrait of the winner of this prize; William Robinson, the machinist, $10, and Deltor & West, the photographers, an order for one dozen photographs. The fair will be continued this and to-morrow evenings, when the remainder of the drawings will take place. The handsome decorations will remain in place and music will continue one of the chief attractions. The wind up promises to be the jolliest part of the highly successful and enjoyable affair.

The Bradford Era (Bradford, Pennsylvania) > 1887 > December > 8

McLane’s New Departure

In the show window of Wentworth & Co., corner of Main and Congres streets is exhibited an unusually fine display of photographs, ranging from life size to the ordinary cabinet. This work was turned out by West & McLane, photographers, No. 67 Main Street. When the Robbins gallery burned a few years ago, it was rebuilt and opened by Detlor & McLane, as the Robbins gallery. Mr McLane has acted as chief operator for 12 years for Robbins and has taken all of the pictures turned out by the Bradford gallery. After they had been going five months McLane associated himself with Robbins, Mr Detlor having sold out. A few days ago Mr. McLane formed a co-partnership with Mr. J. West, of No. 67 Main street and all the large, lifesize pictures and photographs formerly made at the Robbins gallery will hereafter be made by West & McLane. What the Robbins gallery has lost is West’s gain.

I went back to the September 20, 1906 edition of The Bradford Era, to verify the information sent to you in my April 13, 2005 email message. At that time a brief statement was found in the Sept. 18, 1906 edition that Mr. West was reported to be very ill. Then on Sept. 20th it stated that funeral services would be held that morning at the Sloan & Grabe's Mortuary Chapel. I searched the 19th, then the 21, and 22, to be sure there was no obit or follow-up, and there wasn't.

Our 1879-1880 City Directory had been misplaced, but we recently found it. That directory is important since it lists the former home address of individuals. For Jacob West, the listing reads:

West, Jacob, (Barnharts Mills, Pa.) (Chicora, Pennsylvania was originally called Barnhart Mills. Then it was called Millerstown and later named Chicora, Donegal Township) 3 m, (West & Waddell) bds Pierce House.

3 m = resident of Bradford for 3 months
bds = boards

In that same directory, Jacob West & John Waddell are doing business as "West & Waddell", photographers over 66 Main Street.

Perhaps if you searched for Barnharts Mills on www.usgenweb.org it may provide some clues. You will need to know the county, though. I assume Barnharts Mills is in Pennsylvania.

I regret I can't locate the information you need. I wish you the best in your continuing search.
