Note: Jeremiah was born about 1800 "near Albany" N.Y. There was a Jeremiah Newvill served as a Pvt. at Sackets Harbor during the war of 1812 during Nov. and Dec. 1812. Either Jeremiah was born earlier than his age as later given would indicate, or he enlisted at the age of 12. About 1816, Jeremiah married Rachel Lawson.
In Jan. 1823, Jeremiah and Rachel, his wife, sell property in Halfmoon, Saratoga Co., N.Y. and the next month, having settled his debts, he is released from imprisonment and apparently decided to go west. On 1 January 1825, he is on the school census for Lysander, Onondaga Co., NY with two school age children. He was on the move, because his son George was born later that year in Orleans Co., NY and in 1832 his son Francis was born in Michigan.
From about 1836 to 1844, Jeremiah and his family were in Batavia, Branch Co., Michigan where he buys and sells land and one of his daughters, Phebe Ann is married. He is listed in the census with his wife, six sons, and three daughters. Since one daughter is already married, he must have had ten children, although two of those listed might have been Phebe Ann and her new husband, Eldred Inman, temporarly living with the family.
By June 1855, Jeremiah is buying land in Franklin, Vernon Co., Wisconsin. After Jeremiah's death, the probate records list heirs as his wife, Rachel, Abram, George, Frances, Zilpha, Lydia and three others not found. Rachel died 1882 and is buried in the Library Pole Cemetary, Vernon Co., Wisconsin. (Susan McDonough)
