Obituary: William Russell Davis, 83, longtime organist and choirmaster of the Episcopal Church of the Ascension for more than 50 years, died Friday at Bradford Hospital where he was admitted Nov. 27, following a collapse on Main St.
For teh past several years Mr Davis has resided at the Hotel Holley. He lived most of his life at the family homestead, 193 High St., with his parents Mr and Mrs William C. Davis and a brother Ross Davis.
"Will" Davis as he was known was born in Bradford on Sept 6, 1888, son of William C. Davis and Lillie McKim Davis. He attended local schools and graduated from Bradford Area High School, class of 1906. So talented was Mr. Davis in both the piano and organ tha in 1907 at the age of 19 he became the organist and choirmaster of the Episcopal Church of the Ascension.
In 1908 Mr Davis was in New York doing specialized work in the organ music and in choir conducting. His Bradford position during his absence was filled in by Miss Bonnie Linn of Lima, Ohio. From late 1920 through 1930s, Mr Davis became organist at the First Presbyterian Church, returning to the Episcopal Church again in 1940 and
